South facing windows can be a blessing and a curse. Though they let in lots of sunlight, they also heat the interior and cause furniture to fade unevenly. Blinds and screens fix the problem, but also eliminate the upside. Mary Ann found the perfect solution in a remote-controlled retractable awning outside:

The salesperson, Michael, came out. We went over measurements, he listened to what I needed, and he drew up the schematic of what I wanted. When he went home, the next day I had a quote of what I had asked to be done. It was very professional, and very prompt. I didn't have to wait a week or two before he got back to me, which I was pleased with.
The installers are very nice and neat. And at the end they helped me clean up a little derbris, and they put the furniture back where it was. I was very pleased with the whole process, from start to finish.

What is nice about it is that I don't have to put the shades down in the house. It takes the heat out, in the morning it takes the glare of the sun out of the living room when I'm here in the morning having my coffee. Now I just put the awning out halfway, and it shades the sun coming in the back. I don't have to touch anything in the house, I just put that out.
Towards noon, when the sun is overhead, I put the awning out the whole way, so I can go out, walk around & sit out there, and I don't have to worry about taking my sunglasses or a hat. It's very comfortable just to walk out and enjoy my back deck. You can sit there and you don't have the sun beating down on you, but you still can get the breeze and still have a nice view.
I usually make appetizers, and I'll sit out there with my wine and appetizers in the evening before I make dinner.
